My Story

People like me have an insatiable need to create. The more complex the challenge, the more satisfying the process. I’ve always been drawn to both art and technology. I love understanding how things are made, and figuring out how to make them myself.

Growing up, I spent hours sketching video game and comic book characters. That creative curiosity took a leap forward in 1995 when my family got our first home computer. I was instantly hooked. Programs like Photoshop and Paint grabbed my attention, and I loved customizing my Myspace page with code and unique features.

I studied Graphic Design at UMASS Dartmouth, where the curriculum in the early 2000s was still very focused on print. I have a deep appreciation for print design and even took a class on bookbinding. At the same time, I could see where things were heading. Digital media was on the rise. Since my program didn’t offer many digital-focused courses, I decided to fill in the gaps myself. For my senior project, I built a Flash website using ActionScript 2.0. I had used basic HTML before, but this was a whole new level. That experience solidified my love for both design and coding.

After graduating in 2008, I started an internship at Vistaprint where I designed and coded HTML emails with inline CSS. That was my first introduction to best practices, compatibility testing, and the quirks of early web development. I am still thankful that Internet Explorer is finally a thing of the past.

Unfortunately, the internship ended during the height of the recession, and full-time work was hard to come by. I took every contract and temp opportunity I could to build experience. Eventually, I carved out a solid path as a designer. But over time, I realized design alone wasn’t where I wanted to stay.

In recent years, I’ve shifted my focus to design & development. I earned a certification as a Full-Stack Developer and have been deepening my technical skills ever since. My background in design gives me a unique advantage. I understand both the creative and technical sides, and I thrive in roles that connect marketing and engineering. I know how to translate between teams and help bring ideas to life in a way that works for everyone involved.
